This spectacular whisky is a marriage of 6 of different Bruichladdich whiskies, varying in age from 7 years to 17 years. I had the pleasure of tasting each individual whisky at the Virtual Feis Ile Masterclass with Adam Hannett on May 30, 2021. But, the first time I tasted the Laddie Origins was nearly one year later. The Laddie Origins is a combination of all 6 of those bourbon-barrel-matured single cask whiskies: 1) Organic Cask 1660, distilled in 2003 (the first organic distillation) - it was matured for 17 years in a refill bourbon barrel, and was malty and citrusy. 2) Islay Barley, distilled in 2004 (the first Islay Barley release) - it was matured for 16 years in a first-fill bourbon barrel, and was creamy with peaches, oranges and vanilla. 3) Bere Barley, distilled in 2009 with Bere Barley from Orkney, matured 12 years in a first-fill bourbon barrel, and it was heavy on cereal notes, spicy and a little bitter. 4) Biodynamic, distilled in 2011, it was the first sustainable, biodynamic whisky from Bruichladdich, matured 10 years in an ex-bourbon barrel; it was light with apples and lemon. 5) Black Isle Barley, distilled in 2014 and matured 7 years - this one was truly special with notes of vanilla, licorice, toffee, pears, apples, and heather. 6) X3+15, distilled in 2005, it was triple distilled to a whopping 84% ABV before being placed in a 1st-fill bourbon barrel for 15 years - this was a spectacular viscous whisky with flowers, spicy caramel, chocolate, and mint, and a whopping long-lasting finish. There were 3000 bottles of Laddie Origins. Mine is bottle 1696.
