The Hanyu Distillery was founded in 1946 by Isouji Akuto. Hanyu stopped making whisky in 2000. Isouji Akuto's grandson, Ichiro Akuto, purchased the mature stock and distilling facilities, and restarted production at the Chichibu Distillery in 2008. I tasted this rare and delicious whisky at Bar Brora (Sapporo JAPAN). It was distilled in 2000, matured in a bourbon hogshead, finished in a cask with Mizunara heads, and bottled in November, 2011. This was one of 309 bottles from cask # 917.
