Jura is a tiny island off the west coast of Scotland. The distillery originally opened in 1810 and has been the lifeblood of the community to this day. Today, Jura is home to 212 people, 6,000 deer, one road, one pub, and one whisky distillery. Whisky is the island’s major export. This single cask of 663 bottles was released at Fèis Ìle 2013 (the Islay whisky festival, across the bay). It was distilled in 1999 and triple matured in a first fill Bourbon barrel, a Burgundy barrique and a 1963 vintage Oloroso Sherry butt. I tasted this Distilery Exclusive bottle at Jura Distillery.
