Tasted as Day 2 of The Saratoga Whiskey Club Advent Calendar 2022. Every day is a new adventure with a blind tasting, where we each try to guess the country of origin, the type and age of the whisk(e)y, and the ABV, followed by a reveal at 9PM. Lochlea is a new Scotland distillery that has just entered the US market. They are located in the Lowlands and have been producing malt since 2018. They grow their own grain. The estate was the home to Robert Burns from 1777 to 1784. The distillery manager is none other than the legendary John Campbell from Laphroaig. The Our Barley expression was matured in three different barrel types: first in first-fill Bourbon, then a stint in shaved, toasted and re-charred (STR) barriques and finished in Oloroso sherry butts.
