Tasted this unusual single-cask whisky at Rugen Distillery with a tour hosted by our wonderful guide and bartender, Menno. The distillery is located in Interlaken, Switzerland, and has gorgeous views of the Alps. When Switzerland legalized distillation of grains in Switzerland in 1999, Rugen became the first to start making single malt whisky. This whisky was triple distilled in a hybrid pot+column configuration and fully matured in an Oloroso Sherry Cask for 12 years. It spent the first 4 years of maturation in the rock cellar at the distillery. It was then moved inside an ice grotto at the Jungfraujoch glacier at 3454m above sea level for an additional 8 years, and bottled at cask strength. The price was $175 for 500 ml. Price shown is scaled up for an equivalent 750 ml bottle.
