Tasted at First Fill Spirits (Saratoga Springs, NY USA). Uncle Nearest Whiskey is inspired by the first known African-American master distiller, Nathan “Nearest” Green. Uncle Nearest is an all minority-led business, which uses the Lincoln County Process of filtering bourbon through sugar maple charcoal. This process has been confirmed to have been brought to Tennessee by enslaved people and taught by Nearest Green to Jack Daniel. Uncle Nearest is a sourced whiskey that is distilled, aged, bottled and hand-labeled in Tennessee. Due to the filtration, this does not meet the strict definition of a bourbon; however, bourbon is the best descriptor.
