Over half of Scotland’s malt whisky distilleries are found in Speyside, the lush, fertile valley of the River Spey. Speyside is located within The Highlands, between the cities of Inverness and Aberdeen, with both granite mountains and fertile countryside. Many of the distilleries in Speyside use Sherry casks, which impart richness to the flavor. Typical Speyside whiskies are bursting with fresh fruit, vanilla and nuts; and some develop dried fruit and sweet spice aromas.
