The Silkies of the Donegal coast are mythical shapeshifters who shed their sealskin coats to become irresistibly enchanting sea maidens with long dark hair and beautiful voices. Sliabh Liag Distillers began producing Silkie Irish Whiskey in 2016. It is a sourced whiskey - they have just recently begun distilling at the Ardara Distillery in 2022. The blend recipe (70% corn / 30% single malt) is as follows: 13% Unpeated, triple-distilled single malt matured in ex-bourbon barrels / 13% Unpeated, double-distilled single malt matured in ex-sherry casks / 4% Peated, double-distilled single malt matured in ex-bourbon barrels / 35% Triple-distilled corn matured in virgin oak / 35% Triple-distilled corn matured in re-charred barrels.
